Friends stand at the Crab and Lobster Festival, May 2024Cromer Museum was opened in 1978, so is coming up to its 50th birthday in 2028. It is operated by the Norfolk Museums Service, with premises provided by North Norfolk District Council. Its first major picture collection was that of local historian Cyril Crawford Holden and many more images and artefacts have been added since then. Its curators have gathered information over the years from memories and from research, to record the story of the town and district.
There is always a need to provide extra funding for special occasions and special accessions, and that is where the Friends of the Museum can help – and you can help by being a Friend. Amongst the major contributions have been two donations of £2,000 each, which triggered a national grant to bring the Olive Edis photographic collection to the Museum. Last year the Artspace project to put pictures around the town was supported by the Friends. This year it is a contribution of £4,000 from the Friends own funds that has triggered the current grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for 'Alfred Savin and the Fossil Collectors of Cromer'.
